There are two diet-related factors to helping achieve a pregnancy:
- Your weight is important for your fertility. Not too fat, not too skinny to maintain a consistent ovulation cycle.
- A balanced diet contributes to your overall health and fertility.
So it’s time that you have the opportunity to start today a balanced diet in order to improve your fertility, and likewise increase your chances to get pregnant. Do not get discouraged trying for a baby. Now you have a new path to explore.
What is a fertility diet?
First of all you must understand very well what fertility is. In simple terms, fertility is the chance of getting pregnant. No more than that. With a little more complexity, fertility happens when you’re ovulating.
The periods of ovulation are considered the most fertile to conceive a baby. Read about signs of ovulation.
A diet does not necessarily mean losing weight, it means eating wisely with the right nutrients to improve your fertility in order to have good chances of becoming pregnant. However if you are overweight, you may have fertility problems. That’s why a balanced diet will help you lose weight and be in a good fertility condition to conceive a baby.
Following a healthy diet that is filled with nutrient-rich foods contributes to your overall reproductive and physical health. However a fertility diet may be affected with other lifestyle choices. So here you have another factor to improve your fertility combined with a healthy diet, you have to have a healthy lifestyle as well.
Poor lifestyle choices such as smoking, alcohol, caffeine can seriously damage your fertility.
What are the foods for baby-making?
To increase your fertility, you must tune up your hormones. You must feed your body with the following supplements:
Zinc and Vitamin B6
The mineral zinc is essential for a good reproductive health. If you have low levels of zinc, it is likely that you may have fertility problems, low sexual activity, and problems with your period.
Also a deficiency in zinc combined with vitamin B6 can affect your entire sexual cycle. If you eat food with these two nutrients, you can guarantee the production of adequate levels of sex hormones. Sounds good for a fertility diet, isn’t it?
It is very important that you start with a diet rich in zinc and B6 after being aware that you are pregnant. Preferably, every woman should ensure to have these two nutrients in their daily diet, by eating food with them or by taking a zinc and vitamin B6 supplement. These nutrients will help you to have a healthy and strong baby. Likewise, you can reduce the chance of illness during pregnancy and postnatal depression.
Something interesting that you may have heard or read is that oysters are aphrodisiacs; yes they are because oysters are rich in zinc and vitamin B6.
What foods contain zinc and vitamin B6?
Some foods rich on these two supplements are:
Oysters, lamb, beef, egg yolk, toasted wheat germ and generally in all fatty nuts (almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts …)
But…
do not think you are the only one to be fed with these nutrients; your partner should follow also a fertility diet and be eating these foods. Zinc deficiency in men reduces the volume of semen.

Trying for a baby can be an easy task for many women, but for others it can be a hard time and some times very disappointing. So when attempting to conceive, nutrition and lifestyle choices should be treated seriously.
